MSC: Aerial Arm Pathways

A digital guide on expressive upper body movements and pathways. This manual is the perfect place to start adding new textures to your aerial dance for anyone who has ever wondered what to do with their arms!

This manual discusses what expressive upper body movements can add to one’s aerial dance practice, both in look, feel, and intentionality. Various arm pathways are broken down into resets/pauses, movement qualities, initiators of action, and movement pathways.

Each break down is accompanied by a video demonstration and discussion of the arm pathway concept and how it connects into our aerial flow. These videos are demonstrated on the floor so that you are free to take the movements into the air with your own interpretation and style as the lead, on any apparatus!

This manual is perfect for any level of aerialist!

DISCLAIMER: Aerial arts are a VERY dangerous practice. They require body awareness, control (ability to hold positions and move through pathways with respect for transitions), and strength built through good form habits learned in classes and lessons with a qualified coach. Learning from online resources can be a great avenue when also accompanied by hands-on coaching - there are many nuances to aerial wraps and positioning, engagement or control of the body that are difficult to understand the reasoning or importance behind. Always work safely over a mat and always try new things from the ground first! All exercises in this manual are executed at your own risk. Moody Street Circus LLC and all persons involved in the creation of this guide will not accept responsibility for injury to any degree as a result of practicing the drills in this manual. Always consult a professional rigger to make sure your apparatus is safe.

Skills are best ”unwrapped” with a coach at your side!
