New Students with Experience

For students new to Moody Street Circus, with past or current circus arts experience, interested in joining the studio.

This page is designed for students with experience in circus/ aerial arts interested in joining the MSC community who want to learn more about our circus arts offerings.

Our small family-run circus arts studio allows us to get to know each one of our students, both personally and their circus/ aerial arts goals, skills and habits. We appreciate the chance to get to know everyone who comes across our circus arts studio and share our stories.

In order to safely integrate new students into our small and personalized classes, all new students with experience must book a private lesson.

For one student a private lesson is $80.00.

Safety is our top top priority, especially as we get to know new students in this new setting and circumstance.

Levels, and expectations for each level, vary greatly from studio to studio. Taking intermediate level classes in one space does not necessarily mean that level would be the best fit for you at another.

A private lesson gives students a chance to meet our family of coaches, get a feel for our studio and our teaching to make sure that we are the right fit for them.

Our classes are kept VERY small so that our workshops can be tailored to the abilities and interests of our students.

For this reason it is very important to us and our coaching philosophy to get to know our students - and make sure that their interests and goals in practicing circus arts would be well served by our classes and teaching.

We encourage you to read about our family studio and teaching philosophy.

Our Group Class Format:

After an initial private lesson, classes and corresponding appropriate class levels would be recommended. Due to the nature of running a small family circus arts business, our class offerings can be limited at times.

During a new student lesson we are only able to work on up to 2 apparatuses to make sure we have time to dive into our foundational drills and techniques used in each type of class.

We are not able to offer classes for every level of student on every apparatus at every time of year. Classes and class levels cycle based on our student body, interest and availability.

We want to make it clear to anyone interested in joining the studio that it is possible there may not be a class immediately available to a student after an initial private lesson, but it is likely that a future offering would appear and we would connect to invite your registration.

We hope students seek out coaching at MSC because there is something in our practice, space or teaching that inspires them to reflect on the ways they move through the air.

Our studio goal in integrating new students to our group workshops is to make sure everyone is comfortable, understands Moody Street Circus class and practice expectations, and is having fun while learning new skills, techniques, or choreographies. It is very important to us that all of these things are safe and appropriate based both on students strength and ability to dig past the physical movement of what we are working on and to make new connections, discoveries and develop personal artistry.

During a new student lesson we will talk about our philosophy to aerial arts, go through our safety policies surrounding practice and lead you through the drills and skills that are included in all of our workshops. Students will come away from their lesson knowing more about what to expect from training at Moody Street Circus: the quality of movement and mindfulness we expect from our students, the pace of our guiding practice, and the types of skills and combinations we build. During the lesson students will receive personal feedback and on their foundational skills like climbs, body positioning in base wraps and their technique for the moves we cover — accompanied by fun drills and ideas to grow and improve all of these things!

To request a new student lesson, please complete the form below in as much detail as possible.
We will get back to you as soon as possible.

While this form may seem long and daunting, we take our safety, technique and skills very seriously. Wether you’ve taken a break from aerial, are interested in joining our studio in addition to others, or are moving to the area - please answer to the best of your ability. Your responses will help us assess if we have any potential class options for you! We’d love to get to know your skills and experiences!

Thank you so much for your interest in our studio, and specifically our studio’s approach to coaching aerial circus arts.
