DIGITAL DOWNLOAD: Performance Quality & Intention, Prompt Book & Fuel for Awareness
Aerial Arts Performance Quality & Intention
This short manual prompts you to create a short phrase guided by 7 layers of movement, and then ask/ answer three questions about the textures, wants and yearns that your aerial phrase shares. Perfect for a practice session, repeated use and/or choreographic reflection. It also includes short writings, considerations, and prompts from Zoë on what performance quality is to her, and how it can be developed, enhanced, and harnessed through the practice of intentionality and awareness.
When you become aware of all the layers in your movement, your flow becomes both intentional and intuitive. The audience doesn’t just see your skills as shapes or poses, they see presence.
As a performer, you are not only showing movement, but listening to it.
As an audience member, you are not just watching, you are feeling it.
What makes you hold your breath? What keeps you captivated? Those are clues to what performance quality really means to you.

DISCLAIMER: Aerial arts are a VERY dangerous practice. They require body awareness, control (ability to hold positions and move through pathways with respect for transitions), and strength built through good form habits learned in classes and lessons with a qualified coach. Learning from online resources can be a great avenue when also accompanied by hands-on coaching - there are many nuances to aerial wraps and positioning, engagement or control of the body that are difficult to understand the reasoning or importance behind. Always work safely over a mat and always try new things from the ground first! All exercises in this manual are executed at your own risk. Moody Street Circus LLC and all persons involved in the creation of this guide will not accept responsibility for injury to any degree as a result of practicing the drills in this manual. Always consult a professional rigger to make sure your apparatus is safe.
Skills are best ”unwrapped” with a coach at your side!
