Enter our friendly, beautiful space and experience the empowering magic of belly dance with second-generation belly dance artist Melina and her invited guest teachers, including her belly dance family: her legendary mother Rhea of Greece and talented Baltimore-based belly dancing sister, Piper Reid Hunt, Ph.D.

Melina of Daughters of Rhea (Melinda Pavlata, PhD) is a second-generation belly-dance artist, circus performer, choreographer, and scholar. She co-founded the Daughters of Rhea Belly Dance Company, Cirque Passion European Family Circus, and the ALS Therapy Development Institute. She was a Ben Franklin Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania and an adjunct professor of French literature at Boston College before fully rededicating her life to her family legacy of bellydance and circus arts. She has been featured on 60 Minutes II, National Public Radio’s Marketplace, the New Yorker, and the documentary So Much, So Fast.

Schedule your own private belly dance class with Melina of Daughters of Rhea. Perfect for any women's group that wants to have fun, get a great workout, and try something new. Melina will introduce you to a variety of Belly Dance movements and skills, including shimmies, basic steps and hip work, snake arms, undulations, figure 8s and more. Try dancing with finger cymbals, veils, tambourines and trays balanced on your head. Your group will also be treated to a belly dance demonstration by Melina.

Melina’s joyfully elegant style of belly dance, formed as a child in circus rings and at the shimmying hip of her mother in the shadow of the acropolis in Athens, Greece is globally informed, Greco-Turkish/American Cabaret/Bohemian Gypsy fusion. etc), then layer creativity and self-expression on top of that.
